Doors
There
are an infinite variety of interior door styles. They can be anything from simple paint grade hollow core doors with a simple
stamped wood grain texture to a solid wood panel door in an exotic hardwood.

There are
an infinite variety of interior door styles. They can be anything from simple paint grade hollow core doors with a simple
stamped wood grain texture to a solid wood panel door in an exotic hardwood. There can be single doors, double doors, pocket doors, bypass
doors and bi-fold doors. The standard thickness for interior doors is 1 3/8” although lately we have been using a lot
of 1 ¾” doors that are eight feet high. This door can be very heavy and it is nice to have a helper when you
install them. A double glass door going into a study off the entry has become very popular.

Many
times the choice of the interior doors can make or break a project. A heavily detailed casing profile might look out of place
next to a simple painted door. Conversely a heavily figured multi-paneled wood door might look odd with a simple casing. Some
doors can become a big price item on a home but they are something you will see and use every day.
Each
type of door has it’s own unique installation problems. I will try to touch on each of them with the exception of bi-fold
doors. I don’t think I have had to install one of these in at least five years and I am happy to be able to say that.
I have never had or seen a bi-fold door that hasn’t needed a lot of work to adjust it to work properly and they won’t
seem to stay working right for more than a year or two before they need more attention.
